James "Mac" McDonald
August 01, 1931 - March 27, 2011
James “Mac” McDonald of Indian River, Michigan and Port St. Lucie, Florida, died peacefully, March 27, 2011, in Florida. He was 79 years old. Jim was born August 1, 1931, in Detroit, to Ruth (nee Doran) and James “Mike” McDonald. Jim spent 17 productive years as a Catholic Priest in the Archdiocese of Detroit and 22 years as an Employee Counselor at General Motors. He was part of the group that caused the tremendous growth of the Employee Assistance Program in the United States that began in the late 1970’s.

Jim is survived by his very special friend, Mandy Ciolino, step-son, Michael (Elaine Bell) Canjar, and sisters, Maureen (Jim) Myers, Betty (Bob) Gallagher, and Helen (David) Palechek. He is also survived by nine nieces and nephews, numerous grand-nieces and nephews, and Mandy’s children, Matthew and Lucas. Jim is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patricia Canjar McDonald.

Family will receive friends at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 1368 N. Crooks Road (between 14-15 Mile Rds.) Monday 3-8pm. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Holy Name Catholic Church, 630 Harmon, Birmingham, Tuesday 11am. Friends may visit at church beginning at 10:30am. Interment in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Detroit.

The Wolf’s are so sorry to hear about your loss of James or “Mac.” He was a special figure in our family, and my mother and father talked about him often. Not only was he a friend and mentor to my mother and father, but he was a true family figure to my brothers and sister also. May he rest in peace and God Bless him.
